Try Walking Off Your Plantar Fasciitis

Try Walking Off Your Plantar Fasciitis by Sally Key (personal experience with plantar fasciitis)

It might sound counter intuitive, but walking can actually be the best possible treatment for plantar fasciitis. If you are like me in the past, you might be wondering what is plantar fasciitis. To be honest, I think many of us know what it is but do not know what it is called. Throughout my life I’ve been an active walker and a keen hiker – much preferring to walk across town than drive a car or heaven forbid, take the bus.

What is ESWT?

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is an emerging treatment for chronic plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is an irritation to the tissue forming the arch of your foot. It causes sometimes severe pain in the arch and heel of your foot. In general, treatments for this condition can be simple, but sometimes, more aggressive forms of treatment are necessary to relieve symptoms. Surgery can be a last resort for people who have not responded to other treatments for plantar fasciitis, but this surgery doesn’t always have a high success rate and can have potentially complicating side effects.

Kicking Your Heel Pain

If you have heel pain, you’ll need a foot doctor to help you treat the problem so you can get on with the good parts of life. The first step of treatment is to determine what’s wrong. Your foot doctor will ask questions about your pain such as when it started and when it happens most often. They will also do an examination to determine the cause and the appropriate treatment. This may include comparing one foot or leg to the other and manipulating your feet, ankles, and legs to determine where and how the pain originates.
